15 km from Dorogobuzh, down the Old Smolensk road, there is the Saint-Trinity monastery
in Boldino. Father Gerasim founded it in the XVI century. The father together with other
votaries of church built here the first wooden temple in honor of Saint Trinity which was
sanctified in 1530.
The monastery had both: golden years and the years of suffering. It was occupied by
Catholics from 1611 to 1654.The monastery was devastated during the Civil war of 1812.
Having been reconstructed by abbots it had existed up to 1929. In 1929 the monastery was
closed, all the monks were driven out, many of them were exiled to camps. In March 1943
during the retreat, fascists exploded the whole building of the XVI century: the temple,
the ceremony room and the chapel. However, since 1963 there has been started the
restoration work.
Nowadays the temple of Tihon Kaluzhskij (Zadonskij), the temple Vvdenskij and the
dinning-room, all the dwelling houses surrounded with the stonewall with the Holly gates
of the XVIII century are restored. The chapel was erected once more. In January 1991, the
Holly Synod blessed the opening of the Saint Trinity Gerasimo-Boldinskij monastery. In
2001, Vvedenskij monastery got the relics of father Gerasim.
May 14 is the memory day of Father Gerasim Boldinskij..
