The ancient Russian town Dorogobuzh is situated on the banks
of the Dnieper. It was mentioned for the first time in 1150. According to the traditions,
the highest hill was chosen for the building of the Dorogobuzh fortress. It was
strengthened with moats and earth walls. It was named the «Earth Wall». Nowadays it is
one of the main sights of the town. At a distance of several kilometers from Dorogobuzh
in the picturesque place there situated the
Boldinkij St. Trinity men's monastery, founded in the XVI century by monk Gerasim.
At a distance of 18 km from Dorogobuzh there situated the famous Village Aleksino. The
superb architectural ensemble of the end of the XVIII – the beginning of the XIX century
is situated here. D. Geljardi, M. Kazakov, F. Shubin worked on it. The owners of the
country-seat the Barishnikovs had made it not only a big cultural but also an economic
center. The paper-spin factory and the stud farm were also founded here. And nowadays
tourists have an opportunity to visit the horse races in Aleksino.
